More Jobs: Defense Industry Business Leaders Back DeMaio for Mayor

San Diego, CA—With his message of “jobs and more jobs” resonating, San Diego Mayoral candidate Carl DeMaio earned today the endorsement and support of several defense industry business leaders, and the endorsement of the Port of San Diego Ship Repair Association, an organization of more than 120 San Diego‐area companies engaged in ship repair, conversion, overhaul, supply, and support for both the U.S. Navy and the commercial shipping industry.

“Small businesses are a key part of defense industrial base in San Diego. As a former small business owner, Carl DeMaio understands the challenges facing small businesses. He will provide the leadership to make it easier for small firms to do business in San Diego and will engage with regional and national leaders to protect and grow the defense industry,” stated David Inmon, CEO of the Redhorse Corporation.

“I am honored to have the support of one of the principal employment sectors in San Diego: the defense industry,” said DeMaio. “From ship repairs to advanced military technology, San Diego’s defense industry is a core element that provides jobs and brings economic prosperity. As Mayor, I will foster an environment that will attract more defense related businesses to San Diego and provide jobs and more jobs to the region. ”

The Port of San Diego Ship Repair Association also announced its support. “Our association endorses Carl DeMaio for Mayor of San Diego. We are most pleased to hear his acknowledgement of the contributions our workers make on a daily basis to support military readiness and national defense,” declared Derry Pence, President of Ship Repair Association, “We also appreciate his understanding that the ship repair industry is a major part of the engine that drives the San Diego County economy and that through those efforts over 10,000 well‐paying jobs with benefits are provided for hard‐working families in our region.”

Linden Blue, another supporter of DeMaio, noted, “Defense and high technology industries must have a base of sound local government. That makes leadership of our elected officials critical to the intellectual base for security and technical progress. I believe Carl DeMaio will provide the leadership that will keep San Diego ahead in technology—with all that means for good, high paying jobs."

Gene W. Ray, a Founder and former Chairman, President and CEO of the Titan Corporation, affirmed, “Carl DeMaio is the only candidate who’ll attract jobs to our city. He understands job creation and the importance of the defense industry, and astutely knows that the two are intricately tied together.”
