TOP SAN DIEGO DEMOCRAT BACKS DeMAIO
Providing a huge boost of bipartisan support to the mayoral campaign of Carl DeMaio, Qualcomm founder, major Democratic Party donor, and leading local philanthropist Dr. Irwin Jacobs has endorsed DeMaio to be San Diego’s next Mayor.
"I am pleased to support Carl DeMaio to be San Diego's next Mayor. He has impressed me with his intelligence and his command of the issues facing our city and its neighborhoods. His thoughtful innovations will attract businesses, create jobs, and improve our cultural life. Carl will be a worthy successor to Mayor Jerry Sanders," said Jacobs.
At a news conference this morning, DeMaio announced his “Bipartisan Pledge” – a commitment that he will tap Democrats for his Mayoral Cabinet, Department Directors, and appointments to Boards and Commissions.
“I am honored to have the support of Irwin Jacobs, who is San Diego’s most prominent Democrat and engaging philanthropist. I pledge as Mayor to have a bipartisan administration, hiring and appointing the best and the brightest to serve San Diego, regardless of political affiliation or ideology. ”
DeMaio noted that he will continue to seek the counsel and advice of both Mayor Sanders, who endorsed DeMaio on Tuesday, and Jacobs in his bipartisan Administration.
“I am humbled to have the support of two great San Diegans who come from different political parties but both share a love of San Diego as we all do,” said DeMaio. “Dr. Jacobs is an inspiration to all, and we are lucky to have someone who gives so much back to his community. I welcome all Democrats, Independents, and Republicans to join and support my campaign for San Diego Mayor.”
Since the Primary election, DeMaio’s campaign has seen an overwhelming support from across the political spectrum – reflecting support for DeMaio’s vision of fiscal reform and economic prosperity.
