DeMaio Applauds Pension Reform Deal

San Diego Mayoral candidate Carl DeMaio released this statement today on the deal reached between City officials and labor unions to switch new hires to 401(k) retirement accounts and lift a hiring freeze at the city:

“Today's progress demonstrates Prop B is working in getting pension reform for San Diegans! I'm pleased that the City and government employee unions have been able to reach agreement on an interim 401(k) retirement plan for new hires and lift a hiring freeze.

While the opponents of pension reform continue to predict failure, I'm working to build a coalition to get results. This deal demonstrates my approach with Prop B is working.

Because Prop B provides significant leverage for taxpayers to get pension reform, I am confident that future negotiations between the City and the unions will result in full and complete implementation of Prop B as decided by the voters without resorting to unnecessary and wasteful litigation.”
