DeMaio Builds Grassroots Army With Over 5,000 Supporters
DeMaio Says Rank-and-File San Diegans Will Propel Him to Victory – Not Politicians, Special Interests & Government Union Bosses
Mayoral candidate Carl DeMaio announced today that his campaign has earned the support of over 5,000 San Diegans – an impressive tally heading into the final four months of the Primary campaign where grassroots support will be key to victory. Each of these 5000 individuals has donated, volunteered or endorsed his campaign.
“From the start, our campaign has focused on engaging taxpayers to take back City Hall,” said DeMaio. “As other candidates continue to curry favor with entrenched politicians, government labor unions, and special interests, I am going to continue seeking support from the people who really count: rank-and-file San Diegans.”
While pundits agree that each of the four major candidates has enough campaign funds to compete, DeMaio’s campaign is intensely focused on building grassroots support.
“I’m thrilled to enter the final four months with so many active supporters. Our grassroots support reflects the fact that everyday San Diegans want to end the cozy system at City Hall,” DeMaio noted.
DeMaio’s 90-page Roadmap to Recovery provides his plans for balancing the budget, reforming city pensions, and transforming how city government provides services. A major component of that DeMaio’s plan, the Comprehensive Pension Reform Ballot Measure, will be put before the voters in the same June election where DeMaio is running for Mayor. DeMaio has also laid out comprehensive plans for job creation, road repairs, and volunteerism.
Prior to his election to the City Council in 2008, DeMaio owned several small businesses including a successful public policy think tank that focused on reforming government through the principles of performance, transparency, competition and accountability. He was an early critic of the widespread waste and inefficiency at the city and published several reports including the "San Diego Citizens' Budget Plan" in 2004 which outlined much-needed reforms.
