DeMaio Launches City-Wide Pension Reform Town Hall Series

"We are building a grassroots army to pass pension reform in the June election"

SAN DIEGO -- Mayoral candidate Carl DeMaio today announced he is launching a citywide Pension Reform Town Hall Series that will make stops at 16 locations throughout the city in the next 100 days.

The first Pension Reform Town Hall will be held tomorrow, Saturday January 28 at 10am at the Rancho Bernardo Inn at 17550 Bernardo Oaks Drive.

"The Comprehensive Pension Reform (CPR) Initiative is the centerpiece of my plan to fix the city's financial crisis - and I chose the initiative process because I'm not waiting to be Mayor before getting this reform done," said DeMaio.

With the government unions gunning to defeat the Comprehensive Pension Reform (CPR) Initiative slated for the June 2012 election, DeMaio said he intends to use the Town Halls to explain the benefits of the CPR Initiative to the public and recruit volunteers and supporters to join a grassroots campaign to help pass the measure.

After years of fiscal crisis, service cuts, and higher fees, DeMaio made pension reform his top priority and used the citizens' initiative process to allow voters to impose his comprehensive solution to end unsustainable pension payouts in city government.

The CPR ballot measure produces billions in savings for taxpayers by moving new employees into 401(k) retirement accounts and capping the pensionable pay of existing employees.

"To achieve reform, we must build a strong grassroots campaign of volunteers, lawn sign hosts, precinct walkers, and donors to pass the CPR Initiative and elect a Mayor and City Council to fully implement pension reform!" DeMaio concluded.

DeMaio put his Mayoral campaign on hold for months as he raised funds and joined volunteers to help collect an historic number of signatures from voters to qualify the measure for the June 2012 ballot. DeMaio has pledged to make passage of the CPR Initiative the centerpiece of his campaign for Mayor.
